What it is and why your website needs an SSL certificate

An SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) certificate is used to establish a secure communication channel between a website and the visiting browser, ensuring that the data transmitted between the two is encrypted and cannot be "stolen" by someone listening.

Finding out if a website has an SSL certificate is very simple. Browsers themselves tell us if a website is secure; a padlock appears on the left side of the URL when it's secure. Another way to check is if the URL begins with https://anydomain.com instead of http://anydomain.com . This means the website is secure because it has a certificate.

If your website will accept credit card payments, many payment gateways recommend installing an SSL certificate as an additional layer of security . However, even if you don't accept card payments, as long as your website has a login page to access the administration panel, an SSL certificate prevents the possibility of your password being stolen. Also, if you're going to request personal information from your users through a web form, you should have an SSL certificate installed to protect their privacy.

If the reasons we gave you above don't convince you, Google announced on August 6, 2014, that its algorithm would rank pages with SSL certificates higher than those without.

At BE Creativos, we manage and configure the SSL certificate for your website. If you have any questions , please contact us.
